@Brett those are all awesome ideas. I had considered that someone could easily unscrew the box or even smash it to pieces but the purpose of this particular box is for lockpick training so that would basically defeat the purpose. In your case it sounds like having some extra security measures would be a good idea, and also it would add to the complexity and fun of building it. My woodworking experience is very limited so our box design ended up being very simple.

@Rick, will do! We are really into Legos, so I'm envisioning a larger than life Lego safe made of wood ;-) This would be better than any safe or piggy bank that he could ever dream of. And he wouldn't be so tempted to keep opening it and thinking about spending his money... until he could pick the lock that is ;-) I have an idea for thwarting someone from removing the hinges too. Also I would probably counter-bore all holes and finish with dowel plugs in them shaved clean, or use a pocket hole jig to screw it together from the inside - to keep anyone from trying to unscrew a plank. Last idea is to hide the deadbolt from view with a secret cover... that way even those with lock picking skills will have to take it a step further ^_^ I'll start creating something in Google sketchup in my free time. Thanks for the cool project!

@Brett Thanks! I hope your build comes out well. You should post up some photos when you are done so I can see what you came up with. :)

@mjrippe That is a good idea. I should probably learn to properly use wood glue anyway. Honestly I just hate having to wait for glue to dry so I usually try to avoid it when possible.

Neat idea and a good looking box! Next time grab a bottle of Titebond wood glue while shopping. With glue and your clamps you could make those two boards into one solid piece and then drill as needed. Used properly, the wood will break before the glue seam will!
